Bragging Rights

I feel compelled to brag about my weekend. This past weekend was Ohio University's Homecoming Weekend. Anyone who graduated from OU or presently attends or OU or plans to go to OU in the future or has ever met anyone who is in any way related to OU knows that Homecoming is a big deal for us Bobcats. We celebrate all week with various events, and the weekend is basically an explosion of Bobcat pride. The entire campus has a blast, and not a single person sleeps.

And now back to me ... Let the bragging begin.

I met Mike Posner.

I am on the executive board of the University Program Council. We work to bring entertainers to campus and to create and host exciting events for students and community members. (Harry Potter Day is today, if you are interested.) This year, we planned a huge Homecoming concert, starring none other than Mike Posner. He is known for songs like "Cooler Than Me" and "Please Don't Go." A lot of people (me) think the latter of those two was written about me.

Two things are certain: OU loves Posner, and Posner loves OU right back. He spent the entire day exploring and enjoying our campus. He hung out with students on College Green, ate lunch in a sorority house and played basketball at the student recreation center. He may have gone to Duke, but I think he is a Bobcat at heart. The concert was absolutely phenomenal, and it was topped off by the fact that I got to meet the man behind the music after the show.

I was in a parade. (Seriously, go to the 1:30 mark for proof.)

I don't care how old you are, you can admit parades are wonderful. They are a one-size-fits-all type of entertainment. OU's Homecoming Parade is exceptionally fun because it takes place on Court Street, which basically encompasses all of uptown Athens. I marched with the University Program Council. Tons of floats and banners representing local businesses and student groups flooded the streets early Saturday morning. The sidewalks were crammed with onlookers because, like I said, everybody loves a good parade. And people who love attention (me) love being in a good parade.

I spent time with friends.

It never ceases to amaze me how much spending quality time with good friends can boost my mood. Friends are antidepressants in human form. I have incredibly great friends, and I am thankful for every single one of them. These are friends who do interpretive dances with me in public places; who scream R. Kelly's "Ignition (Remix)" with me while walking down the street; and who make up fake names and stories to tell strangers, just to keep things interesting. And, yes, all of those things occurred this weekend.

Sometimes, good fun and good friends are all that is needed to make any weekend the best weekend ever.

Although, meeting a celebrity doesn't hurt either.
